Here, you’ll find my happy paintings. They’re happy because of their vivid colours, their sunny exuberance and because of my positive attitude. My sources of inspiration include, my travels, dreams, meaningful events that have happened or funny anecdotes, all of which I incorporate into my imaginative and symbolic paintings.

I started painting in 1998 and am autodidact. My aim was to paint with limitless artistic freedom. Painting lessons and courses I followed were helpful, but I sometimes experienced the knowledge I had gained as restrictive to my fantasy. In my work, things don’t necessarily have to be in proportion and a chicken can be more amusing with three feet and one eye.

Besides my own work, which is constantly developing and renewing itself, I make commissioned work. This is something I really enjoy and often involves a personal “story”. It could be a chicken in the same colours as your kitchen, a work to commemorate the story of someone’s life or to mark a special event, a new house, a wedding, a birth, a new job, diploma or a leaving party, or maybe just because that wall needs something to make it gleam with happiness. For businesses or individuals, children or adults, in all sizes!

Lately, the above text has shown itself to be a little out of date. Whereas, before, I used to mostly ‘think’, I now spend more time feeling. I find inspiration in sinking down to my heart, from my head. From here, I am completely free to create. Without a work plan, I can let myself be led by my brush. Recently, this has resulted in mostly abstract work. They are still recognizably my work, my use of color and lines see to this, but they resonate with a new energy. The heart, as theme, shows up in much of my recent work and played an important role in my decision to open the ‘Heart Galerie’ in Oisterwijk in October 2007. For six months my studio was situated there. Now, I work from another, larger studio, also in Oisterwijk.
